Aviation Psychologist Assessments

Aviation is one of the few professions where psychological stability and cognitive precision are directly tied to public safety. Whether you are seeking initial certification, return-to-flying clearance, or Transport Canada compliance, our specialized aviation psychological assessments help determine your readiness to fly—safely and confidently.

At New Discovery Psychological Services, our aviation psychologists are trained in both clinical and neurocognitive assessment and follow Transport Canada guidelines for aviation medical evaluations. We collaborate with your Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) and other relevant professionals to provide comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations.

What Is an Aviation Psychological Assessment?
An aviation psychological assessment is designed to evaluate the mental, emotional, and cognitive fitness of pilots and other aviation professionals. The goal is to ensure that you are mentally prepared to perform flight duties safely and effectively under the demands of your role.
These assessments may include:
-
Clinical interview covering history, symptoms, and functioning
-
Cognitive and attention testing (e.g., CPT-3, CATA, or similar tools)
-
Mood, anxiety, and stress tolerance measures
-
Risk assessment and substance use screening
-
Personality and coping style inventories
-
Structured diagnostic formulation and recommendations

When an Assessment Is Required
You may need an aviation psychological assessment for:
-
Initial Pilot Certification (first-time applicants)
-
Return-to-Flying Evaluations after a mental health episode or treatment
-
Transport Canada Compliance following a request from a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner
-
Post-Treatment Fitness-to-Fly reviews (e.g., following medication changes or therapy)
-
Substance Use and Dependence Evaluations
-
Occupational or employer-requested evaluations
